Zellige beldi: how to spot good craftsmanship

Zellige beldi is more than a pretty colour: cutting, assembling and laying are each a craft of their own. Look at the maâlem's real work, ask how he'll do the job, and get the price in writing before he starts.

Moroccan embroidery: Rbati, Fassi and Slaoui

Rbati, Slaoui and Fassi embroidery are all Moroccan, but each has its own way, and even one city has older and newer forms. Don't judge a piece by its name or a small photo: look at the whole thing and let the maker explain how she made it.

Moroccan Carved Plaster (Gebs): What to Ask

Carved plaster changes the look of a salon and its ceiling: it is the art of drawing and carving, done by hand by the maâlem (master craftsman). Before you agree, tell decorative carved plaster apart from ordinary repair plaster, and look at the maâlem's work before you listen to promises.
