Auto-entrepreneur in Morocco: sign-up and tax

Last checked 24 October 2026

In short

Working alone and want to be legal without setting up a company? The auto-entrepreneur status fits as long as your yearly turnover stays under 500,000 MAD (trade, industry, crafts) or 200,000 MAD (services). You register with the national auto-entrepreneur register, then pay 0.5% or 1% of what you take in, every month or every quarter.

Step by step

  1. Check that your activity qualifies

You must work alone in a trade, industrial, craft or service activity and stay under 500,000 MAD (trade, industry, crafts) or 200,000 MAD (services) a year. Some professions are excluded, such as lawyer, accountant, doctor or event organiser (decree 2.15.263).

  2. Pre-register online

    National auto-entrepreneur register

Fill in the form online, print it and sign it. If the auto-entrepreneur portal (ae.gov.ma) does not respond, ask your nearest Barid Al-Maghrib (Morocco's post office) branch how it is done today.

  3. Hand in your file at the counter

    Barid Al-Maghrib

Barid Al-Maghrib runs this scheme (law 114-13, Articles 11 and 12). You receive your auto-entrepreneur card with your numbers: ICE (business ID), tax ID and professional tax number. Take a photo of the card and keep a copy on your phone.

  4. Declare and pay

    Barid Al-Maghrib

Every month or every quarter, before the end of the following month, you declare what you received and pay 0.5% (trade, industry, crafts) or 1% (services), together with your social cover contribution. If a single client pays you more than 80,000 MAD a year for services, they withhold 30% of the excess. Note every payment you receive in a notebook or on your phone, so the declaration is easy.

  5. Know when you leave the scheme

You are removed if you ask for it, if you declare nothing for a full year, if you go over the cap two years in a row, if you move your activity into a company, or after a year without paying. Any amounts still owed stay owed (law 114-13, Articles 8 to 10).

The official route

National register and Barid Al-Maghrib

Registration is with the national auto-entrepreneur register; the file and the declarations are handled at Barid Al-Maghrib. Your tax email address is declared on the SIMPL platform of the Tax Authority (DGI).

Auto-entrepreneur or SARL?

The auto-entrepreneur status suits you if you work alone and stay under the cap. If you want partners, or your turnover is close to the cap, look at setting up a SARL in Morocco. For a group project, see cooperative or association.

What about the costs?

We found no official source giving the social cover contribution or the registration fee, so we quote no figure. Ask Barid Al-Maghrib on the day you sign up. The rates and caps come from the General Tax Code 2026.

Accountant and lawyer

An accountant or a lawyer cannot be an auto-entrepreneur, but they can help you choose between the auto-entrepreneur status and a company, and follow your taxes and declarations with you. On Hdaya you can find accountants and lawyers in your city and ask them your questions before you start.
